What are the different types of Operating System ?

• Multi-tasking or Time Sharing

Multi-tasking Operating System is a type of operating system that can run multiple tasks or programs at the same time. It also enables to share time which allows users to use a system simultaneously. In fact, time sharing means sharing of processor time among the users. Processor shares its time among multiple users that enables users to read/write at the same time. 

It responses fast and reduces the operating time of CPU.

• Batch Processing

In first, batch Processing Operating System does not acquire online processing. It means users do not have direct connection with computer. As users make their job prepared into a batch processing device like punch card, then s/he yields it to the operator and the programs run after batching the similar types of program together. Perol system is the common example Batch Processing Operating System.

• Distributed

Distributed Operating System has distributed processors at different places, however they can run a program at the same time. It also can serves multiple users at the same time. In this system, processors need to be connected to share or communicate with each other. The best advantage of distributed system is that it speed up the data sharing. It does not stop running whether there is a damage of a processor because other processors still have been running.

• Multi-processing

An operating System which has capability to process multiple data at the same time is known as multi-processing operating system. 

• Real Time

An operating system which responds in real time is known as real time operating system. Real time reponse means reponding data and information with period of nano seconds which users do not realize even.

• Networking

Network Operating System needs a server to be run. Actually, it is used to serve capability of managing data, security, programs and applications, etc. Network operating system allows to share data among different networks. It is costly.
