MAC address filtering completely secures your WiFi from unknown users

The most probable answer to the question - how to speed up my home WiFi, is that it is likely to be - use mac address filtering on your access point. Yes Indeed, mac filtering is one of the most secure way to prevent third unknown party access on your home WiFi. MAC address is a unique value which each and every device holds, that is built mostly to control media access from/to that particular device.

Indeed, we often use WPA and WPE authentication including preshared key to secure our WiFi from unwanted users and of course, this is a good way to secure your WiFi but it is also flexible type of security because whenever you want to let your WiFi use to any other user, you can easily do by providing password to him/her. But if you want completely restrict people to get access on your WiFi, then you can directly use mac address filtering technique.

How does MAC address filtering work?

It is a kind of unique key that is used to control media from/to a particular device which works based on that unique key. It also works based on how that mac address is used for. Like, as you deny association of that mac address from your router/access point, it only can not access your WiFi, that means other computer can access. But if you are allowing association of that particular mac address to your WiFi, only that particular mac address computer can access and other will be restricted to access your WiFi.

DSL and ADSL both routers/access points have mac filtering feature ie mac filtering feature is included in all access points. Only, its uses and non uses depends on your own wish. Seeing based on the context of Nepal, ADSL is mostly used internet, though its speed and work efficiency is lower.

I don't care whether my WiFi password is hacked or not

As if, your wifi password is hacked by your neighbor, but he/she can not use your wifi because you have used mac filtering into your access point. 

Merits of MAC Filtering on Access Point

In fact, mac filtering has several advantages and some basic and important advantages of mac filtering is listed below:-

• You can allow and disallow access onto your WiFi
• No one can misuse your WiFi
• It also prevents unwanted computer viruses
• You can limit wifi access for a limited time

By the way, in order to use mac address filter, first of all you must know the mac address of a particular device which you want to restrict from your wifi. And you must enter that particular device's mac address on mac filtering field like shown in above picture.
